BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in Aircraft, Military and/or Automotive Painting

  • Extensive knowledge of Automatic/Manual Spray equipment and materials such as Graco, PD2K, polyurethane products, and similar finishes

  • Strong attention to detail and following safety protocols/regulations

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Prepare tube surfaces for painting and set up, operate, and maintain automatic and manual spray-painting equipment and environmental booths to apply and cure multiple coats of paint to surfaces of missile launchers.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Floor‑operated overhead crane, handling cart, spray guns, pumps, gauges, regulators, hose, automatic spray facility with power rotation and spray gun travel, viscosity cup, stopwatch; thermometer, film thickness gauge, hand tools such as wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, and hammer. Environmental booth, automatic shot blasting facility with power rotation.

MATERIAL:

Primers, urethane paints, solvents and thinners.

DIRECTION OF OTHERS:

Direct helpers and lower classified employees assisting in painting and cleaning.

WORKING PROCEDURE:

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION GOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE OF PAY FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.

1.  Receive work assignment and read specifications, drawings and manufacturing information.

2.  Operate automatic shot blasting equipment to prepare launch‑tube surfaces.

     Check launch tube surfaces for imperfections before painting.

3.  Load launch tube onto special paint car, move into booth and connect to rotating fixture.

4.  Set controls and recording instruments and insure that temperature and humidity

     are appropriate in booths before spraying or curing. Use charts and maintain records as required.

5.  Mix and strain paints and thin for proper consistency. Check temperature and viscosity with gauge and stopwatch.

6.  Set up and adjust paint equipment for proper flow, spray pattern, air pressure, travel speed, and tube rotation speed. Record data as required.

7.  Operate spray equipment to apply multiple coats of paint in accordance with     critical timing and specifications and shut down system immediately upon clogging. Troubleshoot and restart before elapsed time exceeds recoating limits.

8.  Clean equipment thoroughly after each use by flushing lines, guns, tips and

     tanks with solvent and maintaining very clean for trouble‑free operation.

9.  Check paint thickness with measuring instruments.

10. Maintain supplies in accordance with established procedures.

11. Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

12. Perform work of equal or lower skill as required.
