The Health and Safety Advisor plays a key role in supporting the safety functions of our aerospace manufacturing operations. This position provides hands-on health and safety support to activities on the production floor. Working closely with supervisors, employees, and leadership, the Advisor helps ensure a consistent and positive employee experience while maintaining compliance with Federal OHS, CCOHS, and WSIB requirements.  Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the Advisor will collaborate with all levels of the organization at the De Havilland Parts and Aerostructures (DHPA) facility to achieve and sustain operational excellence in health and safety.  The successful candidate will act as a change agent to ensure site compliance with the organization’s health and safety program and federal requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with active involvement in shop-floor safety operations. This role is essential in fostering an engaged, well-supported workforce and a strong, proactive safety culture across the organization. Essential Job Functions:  Oversee the creation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the H&S program for De Havilland Parts and Aerostructures (DHPA).Participates in the development of strategic H&S objective setting for the facility in alignment with the organization’s H&S program.Maintain and improve DHPA’s H&S program in compliance with CCOHS, WCB, and Federal OHS regulations.In coordination with site leadership, establishes a frequently updated H&S dashboard with key performance indicators to identify improvement opportunities.Assesses organizational risk and communicates De Havilland policies, procedures, rules, safe work procedures and control measures to appropriately address and mitigate facility risks.Oversees facility incident investigations to ensure that a root cause analysis results in the prevention of recurrence of same or similar events, and in program improvement; ensures outcomes from worksite inspections are used in program improvement.Liaising with Human Resources and the operations team with regards to WCB claims, modified work programs, emergency response procedures, and return-to-work documentation.Serve as a liaison between WCB, HRBP, and Management to coordinate employee absences and support gradual return-to-work plans.Maintain safety documentation, including inspection records, SDS files and training logs.Supports internal and external facility audits to ensure compliance with applicable Acts, Regulations, Policies, and recognized industry standards.Leads employee and contractor safety orientations.Organize and deliver safety training sessions and toolbox talks.Support or chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC).Promote a positive, proactive safety culture across all departments.  Qualifications & Skills:  Skills & Experience:Occupational Health & Safety diploma or equivalent certificates.Related Professional Certification is an asset (e.g., CRSP, CSP, ROH, CIH etc.).5+ years of Health & Safety experience. Experience completing internal audits is an asset.Excellent Microsoft Office skills (presentation creation, report writing, data manipulation and documentation formatting).Experience in aviation/manufacturing/industrial environment is considered a significant asset.Experience with the preparation, implementation and monitoring of Emergency Response Plans.Strong knowledge of Federal Health & Safety regulations and Union operations is an asset.Experience conducting formal investigations and working with operations to ensure risk mitigation, incident closure and follow up (Taproot Training Preferred).Proven ability to assist with the rollout of internal training programs.Working knowledge of the WCB claim management processes. Attributes: Ability to quickly adapt to the dynamic and fast-paced nature of a high growth environment, managing change as the company evolves.Excellent communication skills to effectively convey safety protocols, provide training, and facilitate open communication channels regarding health and safety matters.Energetic with a strong work ethic; exhibits contagious enthusiasm while projecting the level of maturity required in a Health & Safety position.A proactive mindset to identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures before issues arise.Strong ability to assess risks associated with industrial processes and machinery and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.Cultivates positive working relationships with employees at all levels, fostering open communication channels; adept at collaborating with diverse teams, promoting a safety-conscious environment through approachable interactions.Comfortable with both office work and shop floor environment. Physical Requirements: This role is primarily desk-based and requires prolonged periods of sitting, using a computer, and performing administrative tasks. Walking within the facility is required for meetings, interaction with production staff, and for safety inspections. When on the production floor, appropriate PPE—including safety shoes and eye protection—is required.
