Summary

This position as All Around Machine Operator sets up and operates machines to draw, anneal, spool, straight, cut, or make electrodes using wire or other ingredients per work orders and tools such as dies, micrometers, cranes, lifts, hoists, and hand tools, mixers, kilns, to manufacture welding wire and products per ISO standards and policy and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Reads work order for product specifications such as safety, quality and dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, and determines sequence of operations.
  • Selects, positions, and secures tool in tool holder (tool room or board/belt).
  • Positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, crane, lift, or fixtures.
  • Moves controls to position product and work piece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds and cast and helix per work order.
  • Sets up fixture or feeding device, starts machine, and operates equipment to feed tool to work piece or vice versa, and engages feed.
  • Monitors machine fluid levels and Preventative Maintenance as instructed.
  • Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications.
  • Maintains all tools in good working order or notifies team lead that replacements/repairs needed.
  • Sets up and operates machines and equipment other than machine tools such as butt welding machines and fire-extinguishers.
  • Level I: operates one area of equipment in the plant, such as Spooling.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

GED or High School Diploma required.

One year certificate from college or technical school preferred.

Special Skills

Work is prescribed and completed with close supervision and little autonomy.

Duties are clearly defined and methods and tasks are described in detail.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Required to enter work order details in Axiom or designated software. Must be able to record time in TimeForce or other timekeeping system, enter time off requests and retrieve electronic pay details via online ADP.

Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Hoists, cranes and lifts are available for use and must be used to handle reels and spools greater than 65 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Frequently required to stand, walk and sit and occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
