Job SummaryWorks alone or in a team to support the work involved in the planning, development, acquisition, validation, documentation, configuration, enhancements, implementation and lifecycle of complex computer software systems, specifically Domestic EXCDS and NARDS. Provides functional and technical guidance and advice in one or more areas of technology and software systems specialization to technical and management teams.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

  • Supports the development of initiatives (projects and lifecycle) that align with NAV CANADA’s corporate strategies as they flow down to EXCDS, NARDS, IIDS and the rest of the Domestic ATM Tower Product suite. 
  • Uses knowledge of the EXCDS, NARDS and interconnected systems to provide initiatives for improvement and new development that drive the future of the EXCDS, NARDS, and IIDS products.
  • Actively contributes to the development of software solutions, specifications, standards, evaluation criteria and leads in the evaluation of complex solutions as they apply to EXCDS, NARDS, IIDS and the rest of the Domestic ATM Tower Product suite.
  • Assists in preparing detailed plans, system designs, specifications, and documentation for, leads the development, enhancement, and updates of the EXCDS operational application software to meet business and/or operational, technical, and safety requirements. 
  • Actively promotes a Safety and Quality culture within the Specialty which ultimately will be reflected in the quality of the finished product delivered to the client.

Job Requirements

Education

Degree from a recognized university or community college with an acceptable specialization in computer, electrical engineering, systems engineering, computer science or information systems or an equivalent combination of Education, Experience and Training.

Experience

Years of progressively more experience in software engineering and software development or maintenance for sophisticated application software in data acquisition and distribution systems such as those used in Flight Information Centers Minimum of 6 months of experience working in a developer role on Domestic EXCDS and/or NARDS and/or IIDS.

 

Knowledge

Thorough knowledge of modern software development life cycle processes, practices, and techniques, including Agile, Scrum, DevOps, and cybersecurity considerations as they pertain to EXCDS and the Domestic ATM Tower products.

  • Thorough knowledge of traditional system development methodologies and techniques including real-time, object-oriented analysis and design, database design, data acquisition design.
  • Thorough knowledge of software configuration and release management processes, practices, tools, and techniques as they apply to EXCDS, NARDS and the other Domestic ATM Tower products. 
  • Thorough knowledge of NAV CANADA’s corporate initiatives related to and impacting EXCDS, NARDS, IIDS and the rest of the Domestic ATM Tower Product suite.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Domestic EXCDS and NARDS system including knowledge of the software to the code level and interconnected systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of Safety and Quality processes pertaining to the Domestic EXCDS and NARDS release processes.

  • Ability to analyze specified business and operational requirements to determine how these can best be met within the limitations of time, budget, and staff resources. 
  • Ability to detect, analyze and correct system deficiencies and/or recommend new actions/process improvements.

  • Work location is the Ottawa TSC. This position has been classified as Hybrid.
