Role Introduction
Reports to: Head of Internal Communications & Engagement
This is a team manager role in the Internal Communications & Engagement team within our People Department. The team plays a crucial role as the communications bridge between our employees and the Company.
As a strategic and creative thinker who is results-oriented, you will be responsible for developing employee engagement strategies, through both online and offline programmes, communications and events, to connect our employees with the Companys purpose, vision and culture in order to elevate the employee experience and strengthen the employee pride across our varied employee groups in our home base, Hong Kong, and globally.
With a strong strategic mindset and plan, you will be leading the Employee Engagement & Events team to ensure high quality of end-to-end delivery of initiatives to drive engagement, while being a solid writer yourself. Your main goal is to keep employees energised, engaged and connected with Cathay, and shape a positive work environment in support of our business goals to in turn, influence customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Core deliverables
- Develop and execute integrated communications and engagement plans in a timely manner to connect our employees with the company’s purpose, vision, culture and strategy through both online and offline activities including but not limited to:
- High-quality and engaging programmes and events to build excitement and a sense of pride across Cathay, including our varied employee groups in Hong Kong and the regions
- High-profile company events including our annual leadership conference, quarterly senior leadership meetings and town hall events, with the aim of landing key company messages and delivering engaging experiences
- Everyday recognition and annual award programmes underscoring Cathay’s values - Provide advisory and support where needed on other department-driven events for Cathay employees in Hong Kong
- Effectively manage Cathay sports and interest clubs network including laying down operational guidelines and principles, providing guidance and support to clubs, facilitating club administration matters, recruiting new club members, and developing plans to improve club effectiveness while strengthening the Cathay Pride

- Continuously think outside of box to identify creative ways to actively engage employees
- Develop strong planning, processes, standards and guidelines to support our own team and regional/department counterparts to ensure efficient and effective execution
- Strive for excellence in delivering impactful engagement programmes and event experiences by exploring improvement and creative opportunities by identifying various tools, solutions and resources to support execution
- Develop regular event and project reports to track progress and quality assurance
Team and relationships management
- Lead and manage own team with varied backgrounds and experience levels to effectively deliver engagement programmes and events, while cultivating the business acumen, teamwork and functional expertise needed for individuals to grow and for the whole team to perform with excellence
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with regional and department counterparts to support the execution of company-wide engagement programmes and activities covering all our employee groups
- Manage own team’s budget and support other team administration matters such as the annual budgeting and planning processes
- Identify and manage external vendor relationships to ensure timely support and solutions for our engagement initiatives and events
Requirements
- Degree in Communications, Marketing, Events Management or related discipline
- 8+ years in internal communications, employee engagement or event roles, preferably in team manager roles in complex organisations with geographically dispersed employees
- Experience in developing and executing employee engagement strategies, and reporting against progress, as well as hands-on copywriting
- Experience in managing large and high-profile company events
- A strong understanding of what good employee experience looks like, in the context of business changes and culture
- Strong knowledge of industry trends, tools and techniques that drive engagement and deliver great employee experiences
- A creative problem solver
- Self-motivated and a self-starter
- Strong writing skills and an excellent eye for detail
- Ability to foster professional working relationships at all levels balancing the needs of all stakeholders
- Ability to lead and guide team to perform effectively
- Strong project planning and interpersonal communication skills
- Able to work and keep calm under pressure, managing stakeholder expectations
