Remote Work:

This position iseligible for hybrid remote work in Calgary Alberta only and requires weekly collaboration at the WestJet head office (22 Aerial Place NE, Calgary Alberta). 

Overview of role:

WestJet is seeking a Portfolio Optimization Lead to join our Integration Management Office (IMO). This individual must exhibit a high standard of excellence, enjoy challenges, and be results-driven. The incumbent must be highly motivated and demonstrate the ability to work in an agile and demanding environment.

Reporting to the Vice President, Integration Projects, the Portfolio Optimization Lead is responsible for developing, managing, and communicating the portfolio integration plan to execute the integration of Sunwing into the WestJet Group. This Portfolio Optimization Lead will collate the activities, costs, schedules, risks, and upcoming decisions from the program integration plans to inform portfolio resourcing, risk mitigation, reporting, and decision-making. The Lead will develop, manage, and communicate the portfolio’s critical path to complete the integration. Additionally, in collaboration with WestJets Portfolio Management Office and the IMO Manager, identify, evaluate, and implement portfolio and program process, template, and tool improvement opportunities to enhance the IMOs effectiveness and efficiency.

Key deliverables include:

  • Develop and manage a portfolio integration plan that includes the activities, costs, schedules, resources, and decision factors from the program integration plans and their performance variances
  • Identify and manage the interdependencies, sequencing, and prioritization of activities and resources between programs and other enterprise initiatives by collaborating with the Program Managers and stakeholders across and within the IMO to develop and maintain an integrated master schedule, a cross-program work breakdown structure, a master-phasing schedule, and a portfolio resourcing plan  
  • Establish and manage the schedule, resource, and cost baseline(s) and actuals as the programs progress
  • Perform portfolio risk and impact analysis, recommendations, and updates to the integrated plan accordingly, post change approvals
  • Collaborate with Program Managers and IMO members to develop mitigation plans to avoid portfolio risks, resolve issues, and capture opportunities impacting the portfolio
  • Collaborate across the IMO to identify and evaluate cost and revenue integration synergies
  • Develop and communicate executive-level portfolio management and portfolio data to inform progress, risks, and upcoming decisions and milestones. Additionally, regularly communicate with other Portfolio Owners in the business (PMO, IT, CRE, Fleet, etc.) to ensure effective program execution
  • Support and advise the preparation and facilitation of Portfolio Board submissions and processes within the governance and decision-making framework

Experience and qualifications:

  • Project Management certification (PMP or equivalent), Business Analysis certification (i.e., CBAP or equivalent), or Masters Degree equivalents (MBA, CFA, or CPA) are all considered strong assets
  • 6+ years’ relevant experience in diverse roles and increasing responsibilities across major projects and business areas
  • Experience leading and managing large enterprise projects with varying methodologies (waterfall, agile, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at both the strategic and functional levels to manage project expectations, perceptions, deliverables and resources
  • Proven track record of synthesizing qualitative and quantitative analyses into clear, concise, and insightful reports and presentation materials
  • Experience and or certifications with data analysis / technical project management tools and software (ex: MS Project, Jira, Python, Tableau, etc.)
  • Proven ability to conduct detailed financial and strategic analysis
  • Proven ability to effectively interact with all levels of the company and ability to influence senior leadership
  • Extensive negotiation experience and skills in an environment with high competition for resources
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate the Portfolio objectives, inspire and motivate resources and maintain alignment to the integration business strategy
  • Calm and articulate, ability to handle stressful situations
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver against financial and resource constraints
  • Passionate to succeed and able to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to provide sound recommendations that take into consideration the broader company goals
  • High degree of diplomacy and good judgment, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality
