American Airlines is hiring a communications manager based in Washington DC. who can help us effectively tell our story. We are seeking a communications professional who is a strategic thinker with political experience and interest in working in the aviation industry. The role will report to the Director of Communications and Public Affairs in the Washington Office and work closely with the global government affairs team.

• Assist the Director of Global Communications and Public Affairs in developing and executing external communications strategies to achieve our legislative and public policy goals in Washington, as well as on state and local issues.
• Develop and foster strong media relationships with transportation, aviation, regulatory and other D.C.-based media and stakeholders.
• Work with aviation stakeholders and partners to advocate for the company’s policy priorities.
• Support rapid response and crisis communications, including creating and developing an internal and external communications plan.
• Support sustainability communications as needed, including drafting and development of communications plans and content.
• Draft content for an array of audiences and platforms, especially for team members to help communicate our priorities internally
• Ability to work in a fast paced, 24/7 environment to help lead Americans communications effort.
  

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• Bachelor’s degree
• 6 years relevant work experience in communications in a corporate, government, or agency setting

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• 5-7 years experience on campaign, on Capitol Hill or in the Executive branch
