JOB TITLE: Director of Global Operations Center
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of our Global Operations Center is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our Operations Department, including staffing and training, along with regular Flight Following duties. To serve as the Director of SOCC a person must be qualified through training, experience, and education adequate to ensure that he or she is able to execute the assigned duties with a high degree of competence.
This position requires work outside normal office hours, due to operational needs and varied shifts.
Primary Requirements and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Must be familiar with applicable sections of the Southern Airways FOM, maintenance requirements, and station operations; and
Must have an understanding of the regulatory requirements of the FAR 135 operation.
- Effectively overseeing all Operational Control duties as granted and assigned by the Director of Operations.
- Ensure each assigned crewmember is current and qualified for the flights to be completed.
- Ensure that each assigned crewmember’s flight and duty time requirements are considered and found to be within limits prior to beginning a flight or series of flights.
- Ensure that all flights are “Flight Followed” from departure to arrival and that any overdue flight is immediately brought to the attention of the Director of Operations and/or Chief Pilot.
- Ensure that aircraft are airworthy in accordance with the requirements set forth in the FOM Chapter 6.
- Ensure that weather reports and forecasts over a particular flight route indicate that the weather for the flight will be within legal limits.
- Keep Flight and Duty tracking up to date and ensure that any crewmembers who cannot remain within limits are not used in FAR 135 operations.
- Terminate, divert, or cancel a flight if all regulatory and safety considerations cannot be met or adhered to.
- Immediately notify the Director of Operations and/or Chief Pilot of any delays greater than 30 minutes or of unscheduled landings due to weather or mechanical irregularities. In the case of mechanical irregularities, the Director of GOC will also notify the Director of Maintenance or designee.
- Maintains thorough knowledge of the Operations Manual, FAA Regulations, Operations Specifications, flight manuals, etc., and other instructions pertinent to assigned duties and Flight Operations tasks.
- Authorized to exercise Operational Control under FAR 135.77 when delegated by the Director of Operations.
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of previous Flight Dispatcher experience required.
- At least 4 years of prior airline Flight Operations experience required. Experience with scheduling crews and aircraft.
- Three to five years of prior supervisory experience.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Must be able to work flexible, rotating schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Must be a highly motivated self-starter.
- Must be computer savvy and highly proficient in Microsoft office, Excel Spreadsheets, and phone skills.
- Must possess strong leadership qualities and be capable of motivating staff.
- Proficient in verbal and written communications at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Ability to work with Flight Planning, Aviation Documentation, Flight Time Limitations and Maintenance.
- Knowledge of FAA regulations applicable to Operational Control.
- Experience managing information related to Operational Control.
- Ability to make and communicate critical decisions affecting use of aircraft and crew resources.
- The ability to set up staff development and training plans.
- The ability to prepare regular reports for management.
- Highest degree of personal and professional integrity.
- Good analytical and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of and the ability to learn/utilize flight operations, flight following, and record keeping computing systems.
- Ability to follow and enforce policies and procedures during normal and abnormal situations.
Educational and Licensing Requirements:
High School diploma or College degree.
FAA Aircraft Dispatcher License preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
* Lift 25 + lbs.
* Work in a high stress environment while remaining calm and composed.
* Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
* Work is primarily performed indoors in an office environment and requires exposure to moderate noise levels.
Miscellaneous Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Computer, office equipment, phone skills.
- Ability to read, write and speak English effectively.
- Ability to work within a 24/7 operation including holidays.
- Ability to pass 10-year background check and pre-employment drug screen as required by company and/or airline regulations.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. per the Immigration Act of 1986.
