What You Will Do:
The CIPT Leader owns the execution of strategy and operational direction of the Ceramics Matrix Composite (CMC) CIPT, by leading a 45-50 team consisting of a Deputy, IPT Leaders, and a dedicated discipline team. This CIPT Leader is accountable for the overall advancement of CMC Material systems and relevant HSE Part designs and module strategies. The HSE CMC CIPT Leader is responsible for:
- Ensuring enterprise RLPM value stream integration of the CMC Team with the IPMT, SIPT, CMC Center of Excellence (Carlsbad), Materials, and Advanced Technology Group
- Working with the Advanced Program SIPTs & and other HSE CIPTLs to establish the long-term strategic vision for Military & Commercial CMC insertion.
- Collaborating with the SIPT, HSE Disciplines, TMs and IPMT for program technology needs and corresponding TRL/MRL maturity milestones of CMC Component designs (BOAS, HPT Vanes, etc)
- Collaborating with the Technology Manager, Carlsbad COE and MPE on program technologies needs and TRL/MRL maturity milestones of CMC Material development
- Communications. The CIPT leader needs to clearly communicate with module center management, program management, senior engineering leadership and the external government customers. They will be the main focal point for communication of information for the CIPT from technical design to industrial progression to manpower/discipline support needs.
- Managing and Integrating CIPT budgets within program constraints, including various sources of funding (BLT, IR&D, Customer, Program)
- Establishing alignment of priority and staffing across the HSE discipline directors to ensure on time RLPM execution of CIPT Milestones
- Leading the CIPTs in execution address Top Technical issues, driving extensive analysis of problems to seek understanding of the underlying issue and root cause of the problem
- Supporting prioritization and needs of critical Hot Section CMC technical evaluation tools
- Developing strong relationships with key internal (PCEs/SIPTs/IPMTs) and external customers to help awareness and alignment of CMC strategies
- Development for the team of CIPT Team members, through coaching and mentoring of IPT leads and deputies
- Working with the Discipline Directors/Managers on long range staffing and skill sets needs for CMC discipline health
- Currently, the HSE CMC CIPT Leader reports directly to the Chief Engineer for HSE.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor of Science in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or Business
- 12 years of engineering experience or 10 years of experience with an advance degree
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance..
Qualifications We Prefer
- Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business Administration
- Proven demonstration of risk-based decision-making, analytical skills, business understanding
- The ability to build positive relationships and craft clear communication
- Demonstrated Experience in leading and managing a technical team.
- Knowledge of Ceramic Matrix Composites.

Hot Section Engineering (HSE)-Department Overview
Hot Section Engineering is responsible for the design, development, technology maturation and in service support of all diffuser cases, combustors, turbines (vanes, blades, rotors and cases), augmenters (military), nozzles and associated fuel systems for all military, commercial and industrial engine models and radial auxiliary power units. Technical disciplines in HSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Durability and Product Definition.
What Is My Role Type:

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.
Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.
This position is open to internal applicants only within Pratt & Whitney. To help sure up our military programs, we are looking to reallocate resources to USG direct charging roles and therefore consider this to be an internal to Pratt movement. We may look to open these opportunities upon more broadly once we complete the initial Pratt talent moves.
The salary range for this role is 147,000 USD - 295,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
