Job Summary
The Cargo Safety Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the safety and compliance of cargo handling operations on a day-to-day basis. This role involves supervising cargo handling staff, implementing safety procedures, conducting inspections, and ensuring adherence to safety regulations and company policies. The Cargo Safety Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining a safe working environment and reducing the risk of incidents related to cargo handling.
The expected pay rate is $25/hr. Full-time employees are offered a range of health and wellness benefits as well as 401(k) with company match paid vacation time, sick time, and company paid holidays.
Your activities
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Leadership:
- Supervise and direct cargo handling staff to ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to team members, addressing any safety-related concerns or issues.
- Conduct regular meetings with the team to discuss safety practices, incidents, and improvements.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Implement and enforce safety procedures and policies related to cargo handling operations.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including those set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and International Air Transport Association (IATA).
- Monitor and ensure that all safety equipment is properly maintained and used.
- Training and Development:
- Conduct safety training sessions for new and existing staff, covering topics such as safe cargo handling, equipment use, and emergency procedures.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make necessary adjustments to enhance safety awareness.
- Inspections and Audits:
- Perform regular inspections of cargo handling processes and equipment to identify and address potential safety hazards.
- Document inspection findings and work with the team to implement corrective actions.
- Incident Management:
- Respond to and investigate safety incidents and accidents, including cargo damage and loss.
- Prepare detailed incident reports, including root cause analysis and recommendations for preventing future occurrences.
- Risk Management:
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential safety hazards in cargo handling operations.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks and improve overall safety.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on safety performance and incidents to the Cargo Safety Manager or Operations Manager.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement among cargo handling staff.
- Stay informed about industry best practices and regulatory changes to ensure ongoing compliance and safety.

Your profile
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Logistics, Transportation, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in cargo handling or safety supervision, with a strong understanding of safety regulations and practices.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of safety regulations, cargo handling procedures, and risk management.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to conduct inspections and training effectively. Proficiency in safety management software and tools.
- Attributes: Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

- Environment: May involve working in various cargo handling environments, including warehouses and aircraft areas.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to conduct inspections and audits in various settings, including the ability to lift and move cargo as needed.
