Job Description
This role performs heavy depot-level structural maintenance, repairs, and modifications on T-38 aircraft, with a focus on aircraft skin and bulkhead upgrades. You will inspect, repair, and modify major structural components, ensure structural integrity and serviceability, and document all work in accordance with technical data, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform heavy depot-level structural maintenance, repairs, and modifications on T-38 aircraft, including aircraft skin and bulkhead upgrades.
- Inspect and assess damage to aircraft structural components and determine appropriate repair or replacement procedures using applicable technical data and technical publications.
- Remove and install close-tolerance, high-strength fasteners in major aircraft structural components.
- Design and execute structural repairs, modifications, and corrosion protection treatments while maintaining original strength, weight, and contour to preserve structural integrity.
- Perform post-repair flight control weight and balance checks and conduct control surface rigging in accordance with designated technical orders.
- Inspect components and completed repairs for structural serviceability, ensuring compliance with specifications and technical standards.
- Manufacture, set up, and use jigs, fixtures, forms, and molds to fabricate repair or replacement parts.
- Use advanced metalworking practices, equipment, and tools to form, cut, bend, and fasten replacement or repair parts to damaged structures and components.
- Apply and train others in shop drawing interpretation and depot-level metal layout techniques, including shop mathematics and layout methods.
- Identify, remove, repair, and prevent corrosion, and perform cleaning of metals and application of protective coatings and markings.
- Recommend methods to improve equipment performance and maintenance procedures based on observed conditions and trends.
- Use automated maintenance systems to input, validate, and analyze data, monitor maintenance trends, and maintain accurate equipment and maintenance records.
- Inspect, clear, and close out completed maintenance discrepancies in automated maintenance systems.
- Document all maintenance actions in accordance with Quality Assurance (QA) standards and established regulatory requirements.
- Store, handle, and dispose of hazardous waste and materials in compliance with environmental standards and company processes.
- Operate and maintain related aircraft support equipment (SE) required to perform structural maintenance and repairs.
- Use automated systems to track time change items, equipment requirements, and maintenance actions to support planning and reliability analysis.
- Perform regular Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walks to maintain a safe and clean work area.
- Maintain strict tool control procedures, including reporting missing, lost, found, or unattended tools to supervision, and regularly inventorying and inspecting tools to replace worn or broken items.
Essential Skills
- Experience performing depot-level or MRO-level structural repairs or modifications on aircraft.
- Ability to inspect and assess damage to aircraft structural components and determine appropriate repair or replacement procedures using technical data.
- Proficiency in removing and installing close-tolerance, high-strength fasteners in major aircraft structural components.
- Strong skills in aircraft sheet metal repair, including skin repairs, skin patches, and skin changes.
- Hands-on experience working with bulkheads, stringers, doublers, and other primary aircraft structural elements.
- Proficiency in advanced metalworking practices, including forming, cutting, bending, and fastening metal components.
- Ability to manufacture and use jigs, fixtures, forms, and molds to fabricate repair or replacement parts.
- Knowledge of corrosion control, including corrosion identification, removal, repair, prevention, and application of protective coatings.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from technical orders, drawings, and other maintenance documentation.
- Experience documenting maintenance actions in accordance with Quality Assurance (QA) and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to use automated maintenance systems to input, validate, analyze, and close maintenance data and discrepancies.
- Understanding of and adherence to strict tool control procedures and FOD prevention practices.
- Ability to safely store, handle, and dispose of hazardous materials in line with environmental standards and company processes.
- For Structures Tech Level III: 8–12 years of experience performing depot-level or MRO-level structural repairs or modifications.
- For Structures Mech Level II: 5+ years of experience performing depot-level or MRO-level structural repairs or modifications.
- For Structures Mech Level I: 2+ years of experience performing depot-level or MRO-level structural repairs or modifications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in aircraft maintenance and aircraft structures work, including heavy depot-level repairs or modifications.
- Knowledge and understanding in MRO or heavy maintenance environments.
- Experience with aircraft skin repair and aircraft modification projects.
- Fighter jet experience preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with Air Force Specialty Codes 2A753 or 2A773 is a plus but not required.
- Experience with corrosion control programs and best practices.
- Exposure to quality technical inspection responsibilities is beneficial.
- Experience with MB US 16T ejection seat systems is a plus.
- Possession of special certifications such as A&P license, NDT, egress, or confined space is advantageous.

Work Environment
Work takes place in an aircraft hangar environment focused on depot-level maintenance and modification of T-38 aircraft. The position operates on a day shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 06:30 to 15:30. You will work around aircraft support equipment, metalworking tools, and automated maintenance systems in a structured, safety-conscious setting that emphasizes FOD prevention, tool control, and proper handling of hazardous materials.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $75316.00 - $79227.00/yr.
