JOB FUNCTION:
Evaluate each dimension of a casting and using the dimensional data, make a decision on the acceptance, rejection, or rework of that casting.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to read the Quality Engineering Specification (QES) and apply it to the dimensional inspection and adjustment of a casting.
- A qualified dimensional inspector must be able to consistently evaluate each dimension of a casting. Using the dimensional data he/she makes a decision on the acceptance, rejection, or rework of that casting based on the requirement stated in the QES.
- By accepting a part at dimensional inspection, the inspector accepts personal responsibility for the dimensional integrity of that part, here and at the customer.
- Basic math skills are a necessity. Must be able to add and subtract positive and negative integers. A good understanding of measurements in fractions of an inch (tenths, hundredths, thousandths) is required. Must be able to read digital/mechanical dial indicators and computer generated tolerances.
- A person working at manufacturing gage must possess a basic understanding in the use of hand tools required in the adjustment of castings to meet QES requirements. He/she must be able to adjust each part using several adjustment techniques: bowing, twisting, tilting, and “wrapping”. The part must be visually acceptable after adjustment. A certain amount of trailing edge straightening will be required to correct damaged castings.
- Basic computer skills are required.
EDUCATION:
High school education.
EXPERIENCE:
Nine months OJT training.
INITIATIVE AND INGENUITY:
Normal initiative and ingenuity.
EFFORT:
Physical Requirements: Must be able to push and pull a minimum of 10 to 30 force/lbs (with proper lifting devices) in order to move gages weighing from 20-270 lbs. Must be able to move gages weighing from 20-270 lbs. from one location to another (push and pull) using a gage cart. This job also involves some heavy lifting (up to 30 lbs). Repetitive casting adjustment is required throughout the workday (push and pull).
RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for self. Train Gager I’s as required. Make sure parts meet quality standards. Must be willing to work daily overtime and weekend overtime as necessary.
