Position Overview
The Maintenance Controller serves as the operational link between the maintenance team, flight operations, and internal support departments. This role functions as the “dispatcher for mechanics,” coordinating and directing maintenance activities rather than performing daily hands-on tasks. The Maintenance Controller ensures aircraft are maintained in an airworthy condition, facilitates communication between maintenance bases, and supports a high-tempo operation that runs 24/7.
Core Responsibilities
- Coordinate and dispatch maintenance work to mechanics, ensuring continued progress on aircraft in maintenance.
- Collaborate with supervisors, hangar leads, and internal departments (stores, parts, logistics) to address and resolve maintenance issues such as parts delays or unscheduled events.
- Provide technical oversight of aircraft maintenance activities and make timely operational decisions to maintain schedule integrity.
- Monitor the use of the Minimum Equipment List (MEL), approve deferrals, and track open discrepancies through to resolution.
- Work closely with the Operations Control Center to optimize aircraft routing and support flight operations during irregular maintenance events.
- Ensure compliance with all FAA regulations and company procedures while maintaining safety as the top priority.
- Build and maintain strong communication channels between maintenance teams and other stakeholders to sustain operational flow.
Work Environment
This position operates within a high-energy, mission-critical control center setting. It requires exceptional analytical abilities and situational awareness to make technical decisions under pressure. The operation runs 24/7, so flexibility with shifts, weekends, and holidays is essential.
