Composite Repair Technician (Aviation Composites)
Job Description:

This is an Aircraft Structures Technician role specializing in composite repair (Part 145 in-service components).

In-service composite component repair in an FAA/EASA Part 145 repair station (not production layup/assembly).

  • Hands-on work: scarf repair, honeycomb core removal/replacement, bonding, contour restoration, finish.
  • Strict execution to approved technical data with disciplined travelers/work orders and Quality hold points.
  • Process control matters: surface prep, contamination/FOD control, cure control, and traceability (batch/lot, shelf life, out-time) where required.

Summary

Hot Section Technologies is an FAA/EASA Part 145 repair station supporting the regional airline market through component-level maintenance and repair. This role restores in-service aircraft components made from fiberglass, carbon fiber, Kevlar/aramid, and other composite systems to approved technical data (OEM manuals, engineering drawings, and approved internal data). Work includes structural repairs and cosmetic finishing.

This is in-service composite repair in a repair station environment—not a production layup/assembly-only position. Candidates must be able to describe at least one scarf repair and one core repair end-to-end (or clearly state what portion you have done and what you have not).

Key Responsibilities

  • Surface preparation and damage removal (including scarf prep per approved data)
  • Wet layup/hand layup repairs, including ply orientation and contour restoration
  • Honeycomb core removal/replacement and bonding tasks
  • Room-temperature and oven cures when required; verify/document time/temperature
  • Trim/finish operations (routing, drilling, sanding, deburr/fill)
  • Accurate work order documentation, including material/batch/lot traceability where required
  • Follow SDS/PPE/environmental controls; organized work area; support continuous improvement

Documentation & Quality System Expectations (Part 145)

  • Perform work strictly to approved technical data and controlled work instructions (SRM/CMM/drawings/service bulletins/RS-DER instructions/Regional MRO Standard Work, as applicable)
  • Complete travelers/work orders/routers accurately and in real time; maintain required traceability (material certs, batch/lot, shelf life, out-time, pot life, and mix ratio method by weight/volume as applicable and required by the approved data)
  • Work effectively with Quality at inspection checkpoints/hold points; support in-process verification
  • Discrepancies/nonconformances: stop, escalate, document, and obtain disposition/approval before proceeding
  • Maintain awareness of tool calibration requirements and proper recordkeeping where required

Composite Process Controls

  • Contamination prevention, FOD control, and disciplined surface prep
  • Environmental controls when required (temperature/humidity considerations per approved data)
  • Material and consumables control, as applicable: batch/lot, shelf life, out-time/pot life, and controlled consumables (release films/peel ply/bleeder/breather/solvents) when required by the process
  • Cure control discipline: verify/document cure time and temperature (room-temp or oven cures) as required
Job Requirements:

Qualifications (Minimum)

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years hands-on composite repair experience in a Part 145, OEM, or military environment
  • Ability to interpret technical data and follow approved processes
  • Strong documentation habits and traceability mindset
  • Able to lift up to 50 lb; standing, kneeling, crouching, and overhead work
  • Able to pass pre-employment and random drug screening

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • FAA-recognized composite training/certificate, A&P, or equivalent military composites background
  • Eligibility to obtain FAA Repairman Certificate for composite structures (as applicable)
  • Prior work in regulated aviation environments with strong inspection/compliance standards

What success looks like in the first 90 days

  • Independently completes at least one scarf repair and one core repair to approved data, including documentation and Quality checkpoints
  • Produces repeatable workmanship on ply orientation, contour restoration, bonding, and finish operations
  • Demonstrates reliable documentation discipline (travelers/work orders, traceability where required)
  • Escalates unclear instructions early and follows discrepancy/nonconformance controls without bypassing hold points

Benefits

  • Health insurance: $350/month employer contribution toward the team member’s premium
  • Dependent health coverage: $200/month employer contribution (total for all dependents)
  • Dental, vision, and life insurance: 100% employer-paid
  • 401(k) with up to 4% company match
  • Profit sharing: annual program; eligible after 90 days; when provided, pool is 3% of net profit distributed pro-rata (comp-to-comp); based on company performance and goal attainment; not guaranteed
  • PTO and 8 company-paid holidays
  • Additional paid time off may be provided around July 4 and Christmas/New Year’s based on company performance and goal attainment
  • Structured on-the-job training and professional development
  • Regular team-building activities and monthly company lunches

Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection, hearing protection, respiratory protection, and gloves, is required as per FAA and OSHA safety guidelines. The work may involve occasional exposure to loud noises, fumes, airborne particles, and varying temperatures. Team members may be required to stand for extended periods, lift equipment or parts weighing up to 50 pounds, and perform tasks that involve repetitive motions or awkward positions.
