Job Summary
The Aircraft Structural Mechanic is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of both internal and external aircraft structures in compliance with engineering drawings, technical manuals, and FAA regulations. The role requires precision in layout, fitting, and riveting, as well as the ability to interpret complex blueprints and engineering orders. The position involves working on both rotary and fixed-wing aircraft and may require travel and confined space work.
Job Responsibilities
- Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair aircraft structures and surfaces based on technical specifications
- Disassemble and modify existing aircraft components as needed for installation or repair
- Interpret and follow engineering drawings and technical manuals to determine proper tools, fasteners, and installation methods
- Precisely fit, trim, and align parts and skins to meet tight tolerances
- Drill, countersink, and rivet exterior skin panels, ensuring quality and compliance
- Execute structural rework, repairs, and engineering orders (E.O.s)
- Utilize computer-based systems for work instructions, documentation, and inventory
- Fabricate detail parts per blueprints or engineering directives
- Conduct aircraft inventory, acceptance procedures, and inspections
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs
- May work in confined spaces and travel up to 25 as needed
Required Skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical orders, blueprints, and engineering drawings
- Proficient in structural fitting, riveting, and rework practices
- Strong attention to detail and quality assurance
- Self-motivated with strong task scheduling and time management skills
- Familiarity with computer-based systems for job tracking and documentation
- Ability to maintain training and certifications as required
Preferred Skills
- Experience with both rotary wing and fixed-wing aircraft
- Aircraft paint removal and application experience
- Prior exposure to aircraft structural modifications and troubleshooting
