Job Description:

The Aircraft Mechanic II – NDI will primarily perform all scheduled and unscheduled aircraft and equipment maintenance, both on and off equipment, on assigned aircraft and equipment in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS), M1 policy, DAFI 21-101(and supplements), as well as industry standards.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Maintains repairs/modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.
  • Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies required expertise in restoring equipment condition and or operation.
  • Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as; blueprints or manufacturers' manuals.
Job Requirements:
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts, requires broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair, must have basic knowledge of electrical theory,
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the aircraft's unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, and sheers.
  • This job requires a working knowledge of technical publications.
  • The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from a supervisor or higher-level technician, will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft-relevant tasks, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
  • Minimum of three years performing aircraft NDI functions in a military environment and attainment of an Air Force 5 level (or equivalent) is required.
  • NDI Level II certified with a minimum of 3 years experience as a Level 2 technician IAW National Aerospace Standard (NAS) 410 or ASNT Certification.
  • Will perform aircraft and equipment maintenance on other assigned MDS aircraft in a highly “cross-utilized/trained” environment.
  • Will be required to perform at a high level of competency in one or more of the following areas: repair and reclamation, egress, electro/environmental, avionics, wheel & tire, sheet metal, composite repair, propulsion, fuels, AGE, armament, munitions, non-destructive inspection (NDI), and pneudraulics.
  • Performs transient aircraft support. CDDAR team chief. Phase dock chief. Engine run certifier. QA augmentation. Wheel & Tire certified.
  • Working knowledge of principles applying to aircraft systems, concepts and applications of maintenance directives, data reporting, and using technical data is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of Air Force supply and efficiency reporting procedures is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of the proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials is mandatory.
  • Must be able to move about both inside aircraft hangars and outside on aircraft ramps within close proximity of running equipment and aircraft.
  • Must be reliable, self-motivated, and able to deal with stressful situations and timelines while maintaining a professional and non-confrontational attitude.
  • Knowledge of Air Force supply and efficiency reporting procedures is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of the proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials is mandatory.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain the security clearance level as mandated by the government customer.
  • Maintains qualifications contained on the Special Certification Roster (SCR) as directed.
  • Must possess a current valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Must speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.

Working Conditions:

  • Position requires complying with unique commuting/travel requirements
  • Will work in aircraft hangars and outside on aircraft ramps within close proximity of running equipment and aircraft.
  • Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, or overtime shifts as required.
  • May work outdoors, sometimes in hot or cold weather.
  • May be exposed to contaminants.
  • May be exposed to hazardous conditions, such as when standing on scaffolding or climbing ladders
  • Will be exposed to loud and persistent noise
  • Will be required to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as: safety toe footwear, safety glasses, etc.
