Apprentices will enter the Machinist training program which will include classroom and on the job training. To complete the program, you must complete an individual development plan and then passing the journey level machinist test.
Pass probation. Attend and maintain grades for all classes that the individual is enrolled in. Complete IDP (individual development plan), and by the end of the program take and pass the Journey Level Machinist Exam. After that the responsibilities of a Machinist are as follows.
A Maintenance Machinist performs the following job duties:
- Read, understand, and use blueprints to machine parts and assemble/disassemble machine components, etc.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, assemble/disassemble and repair per specification, mechanical equipment and its components for the purpose of restoring equipment to operating condition or for replacement, etc.
- Precise measurement of parts using micrometers and similar measuring tools.
- Operate machining centers such as lathes, mills, horizontal and vertical boring machines, drills, grinders, presses, and CNC equipment, etc.
- Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems to facilitate the repair of valves, cylinders and pumps, etc.
- Operate oxy/acetylene equipment such as torches and heaters.
- Operate cranes such as overhead, jib, radio controlled and pendant, etc.
- Operate mobile equipment such as fork truck and flat beds, etc.
- Adjust, repair maintain and lubricate machining equipment.
- Limited computer skills to order parts and input time, etc.
Minimum Basic Qualifications:
1. Must have a high school diploma or GED
2. Must have one or more of the following
a. Previous completion of a Machinist Apprenticeship and/or received an associate degree in Mechanical Technology or related field.
b. Completion of a certified mechanical program, transcripts showing completion of mechanical classes, or other mechanical certifications
c. Previous work experience in a mechanical field
d. Must have previous work experience.
3. Pass the Machinist Apprentice pre-employment test.
4. Must pass the physical and drug screening test post offer of employment.
