SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Machinist works to repair and modify commercial aircraft components and component piece parts. Machinists may occasionally be required to perform mechanical assembly and disassembly work in addition to or in conjunction with typical machining or machine work functions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Accomplishes machining, fabrication, and assembly or disassembly tasks as assigned by leadership while utilizing current approved technical data, manuals, or technical drawings.
* Ensures conformance to product specifications and standards.
* Confers with Lead or Engineering to resolve machining questions or problems.
* Provides necessary support to aid Engineering during tooling and test fixture design and fabrication processes.
* Performs other duties as assigned. Internal Progression Requirements for Machinist 1, 2 are defined by the following basic criteria:
* Machinist 1
* Basic Lathe skills (i.e. Turning material/fabricated small parts to size).
* Basic Mill skills (i.e. Swaging Bearings/reaming bores/removing stock from raw material).
* O.D. Precision Grinding skills.
* Demonstrates competency of Mechanic 1 duties and responsibilities.
* Machinist 2
* Demonstrates competency of Machinist 1 duties and responsibilities.
* Advanced Lathe skills (i.e. Small parts fabrication, machining units to repair/modify).
* Advanced Mill skills (i.e. Small Parts fabrication, machining units to repair/modify).
* I.D. Hone Operation skills.
* I.D. Precision Grinding skills.
* Surface Grinding skills.
* Has completed On-the-job (OJT) Training of Level 1 Machinists with demonstrated success. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
* Experience in Aviation or MRO preferred.
* Machinist 1: minimum six (6) months of related work experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.
* Machinist 2: minimum eighteen (18) months of related work experience or equivalent combination of experience and training. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND DEXTERITY:
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to sit; use their hands and arms; and talk or hear; and focus on objects close up.
* The employee will also be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
* The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
