Senior Principal Software Engineer- Cloud

Contract Position

$104.41 - $109.41/Hour

Contribute to a company at the forefront of mission-critical systems and technologies in defense and security. This leader in global defense integrates advanced technology to deliver information and insights on the battlefield, offering roles that support security and technological superiority across multiple domains.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of secure, cloud-based mission-critical systems supporting defense and security operations.
• Develop and implement cloud-based solutions using AWS, Kubernetes, and DevOps best practices.
• Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and containerized environments.
• Apply security best practices for cloud platforms, including compliance, encryption, and vulnerability management.
• Develop, test, and optimize API integrations while ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Utilize Python, Java, and scripting languages (YAML, JSON, Linux/UNIX) for cloud-based application development.
• Oversee AI-driven solutions to enhance workload efficiency and automation.
• Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams in a Scaled Agile environment.
• Maintain documentation and knowledge-sharing for cloud infrastructure and application development.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Science, Engineering, or Mathematics (Master’s degree preferred).
• 10+ years of experience (8+ years with a Master’s degree) in software engineering and cloud computing.
• Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
• Expertise in Python and Java for cloud application development.
• Strong DevOps background, including CI/CD pipelines, GitOps, automation, and infrastructure as code.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services (AWS Solutions Architect certification preferred); knowledge of Azure is a plus.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration.
• Proficiency in API design, testing, development, and management.
• Familiarity with security best practices in risk, compliance, encryption, incident response, and auditing.
• Preferred Tools & Technologies:
  • CI/CD & DevOps: GitLab, Nexus Managed Artifacts, Terraform, CloudFormation
  • AWS Services: EKS, EC2, Lambda, S3, EBS/EFS, VPC, DNS, IAM, KMS, CloudWatch, CloudTrail
  • Configuration Management: Ansible, Terragrunt, ArgoCD
  • Monitoring & Security: Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, ACAS/Grype vulnerability scanning
  • Version Control & Collaboration: Git, Jira, Confluence
  • Build & Development: VS Code, Maven
  • Event Streaming (Nice to Have): Kafka messaging
