Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is hiring for a Senior Facilities Plant Engineer to join the team located in Hazelwood, MO! The Advanced Composites Center has state-of-the-art enabled capabilities and operates to support Boeing’s Fighter Programs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads project teams to develops complex or unique conceptual designs, final designs, cost estimates and provides maintenance support for the architectural phases of buildings, equipment installations, utility systems and grounds.
  • Coaches and guides others to align architectural designs with customer requirements, building codes and applicable regulations by applying knowledge of construction principles, practices, and materials.
  • Participates on or leads cross-functional, enterprise-wide teams to integrate the activities of multiple engineering disciplines, outside consultants and government agencies.
  • Leads project teams to develops complex or unique conceptual designs, final designs, cost estimates and provides maintenance support for the civil/structural phases of buildings, equipment installations, utility systems and grounds.
  • Coaches and guides others to align civil/structural designs with customer requirements, building codes and applicable regulations by applying knowledge of construction principles, practices, and materials.
  • Leads teams to develop complex or unique conceptual analysis to determine the cause of asset failures and reduction in asset capacity by using reliability tools and methods (e.g., life cycle analysis, condition based maintenance, root cause failure methodology, mean time between failures, fault tree analysis, etc.).
  • Instructs others in engineering and facilitating the implementation of complex or unique improvements in asset effectiveness, availability, and maintainability; to specify configuration of new assets in order to support reliability programs.
  • Leads project teams to develops complex or unique conceptual designs, final designs, cost estimates and provides maintenance support for the electrical phases of buildings, equipment installations, utility systems and grounds.
  • Coaches and guides others to align electrical designs with customer requirements, building codes and applicable regulations by applying knowledge of construction principles, practices, and materials.
  • Leads project teams to develops complex or unique conceptual designs, final designs, cost estimates and provides maintenance support for the mechanical phases of buildings, equipment installations, utility systems and grounds.
  • Coaches and guides others to align mechanical designs with customer requirements, building codes and applicable regulations by applying knowledge of construction principles, practices, and materials.
  • Mentors personnel to ensure accuracy of drawing archives/libraries.
  • Oversees review of contractor redlines.
  • Provides oversight to identify errors and document construction changes to comply with regulatory requirements, facility standards, and record retention requirements. Incorporates industry best practices.
  • Acts as enterprise-wide consultant.
  • Coaches and provides oversight to teams on construction project practices such as vendor selection, reviewing contractor proposals, interfacing with government/regulatory agencies, monitoring project progress and vendor/consultant performance.
  • Mentors teams or personnel on preparing and presenting of project information to ensure compliance with applicable construction documents and jurisdictional requirements and to meet project objectives.
  • Acts as enterprise wide consultant.
  • Instructs teams in the production or procurement of detailed design documents.
  • Uses appropriate resources to produce project drawings, specifications, and permit application packages in accordance with project parameters.
  • Coordinates designs. Reviews and approves documents.
  • Instructs teams in the translation of customer requirements to design options with documents and estimates.
  • Identifies appropriate materials, equipment, and services by applying engineering principles and methodology.
  • Authors, consults and approves design standards and site-specific operating procedures in order to establish common practices.
  • Takes lead role in technical committees. Instructs teams in the business decision making process by providing input to strategic, short-term, and long-term infrastructure planning; completes studies; analyzes current conditions and future requirements; recommends capital improvements; gathers and analyzes data; and works with both internal and external customers in order to identify and assess alternatives and impacts.
  • Instructs teams in translating customer requirements into conceptual design by analyzing intended use/occupancy and desired aesthetics, conducting code research, developing preliminary design elements, determining interdisciplinary engineering support requirements, estimating resource costs/requirements, identifying materials, equipment, and services, and developing initial project schedule in order to establish project scope in response to customer requirements.
  • Provides oversight and coaching to personnel who plan, manage, and execute complex or enterprise wide projects.
  • Leads or directs teams in the acquisition and modification of assets to enable the customer to achieve the defined business objectives in accordance with company and accounting policies.
  • Manages project expenditures within authorized budgets.
  • Creates, maintains, and communicates project management information. Assists in the creation of contract scope.
  • Ensures suppliers comply with all contract obligations.
  • Instructs teams in the Interpretation and analysis of applicable regulations, standards, codes, and ordinances with respect to project requirements.
  • Offers project alternatives in order to assure compliance.
  • Provides support, as required, to secure permits.

Additional Knowledge to include:

  • General fundamentals of electrical theory, control relaying, protection relaying, control and power switching schemes.
  • Knowledge of power distribution substations SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of and background in digital solid state equipment and circuits.
  • Ability to communicate with others, make sound decisions, and to assimilate and understand information in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
  • Understand electrical codes including NFPA 70E, OSHA Regulations and other codes as applicable.
  • Ability to use bench test equipment TTR (Transformer Turns Ratio), Megger, AC/DC Hipot, multimeters and analyzers and other tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Safe work practices and procedures including high voltage switching procedures.
  • Maintenance and operation of substation, controls, power flow, protection.
  • Safety requirements and precautions necessary while working with low medium and high voltage systems.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Effectively organize information and data
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting and repair on a wide variety of electrical and electronic equipment commonly found in an electric utility.
  • Read, interpret, and update electrical drawings, plans, diagrams and specifications, sketch electrical drawings to reflect as built systems.
  • Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and analyze communication systems; communicate accurately orally and written; possess the ability to read electrical and communication distribution maps.
  • Ability to keep accurate records of work using computer software when necessary. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering
  • 3+ years of experience working in a production or manufacturing environment
  • Experience in Program or Project Management and solving technical issues or anomalies using root cause principles

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience with model-based engineering tools
  • Experience do you have complying with industry standards, including electrical and safety codes
  • Experience implementing lean manufacturing principles in a production system
  • Experience leading and collaborating within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment
  • Ability to collaborate with both the engineering workforce and mechanics on the factory floor
  • Experience with physical server hardware (HP Servers, Cisco Switches & Routers)
  • Experience with a broad range of basic systems and application support?   Experience evaluating and effectively communicating complex system problems and resolution Experience with System Backups, Network switch configuration, May require varying worktimes as needed.
  • Experience with electrical systems including National Electrical Code, basic relay logic and high voltage systems

Summary pay range: $131,705 – $178,250 USD
