We are seeking a highly experienced Senior AWS Cloud Engineer with strong development skills in Java and Python, and a background in the airline or retail industry. This role focuses on building scalable, secure, and high-performance cloud-native applications using AWS, with a strong emphasis on microservices, containerization, and modern development practices.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Collaborate with the technical teams, business teams, and product managers to ensure that the code that is developed meets their vision.
  • Align to Security/Compliance frameworks and controls requirements.
  • Design and develop microservices using Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and GraphQL to meet functional and technical requirements.
  • Write clean, testable code in Java and Python, with unit testing using JUnit.
  • Build and manage CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline.
  • Use Maven or Gradle for build automation and dependency management.
  • Architect and implement containerize, using Docker and orchestrate with Kubernetes, and cloud native applications.
  • Work with SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Redis) databases.
  • Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Monitor, optimize, and secure cloud environments using AWS-native tools.
  • Optimize cloud costs and performance through monitoring, automation, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineers.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering with a focus on AWS.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, with 8+ years of relevant technical experience or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems with 2+ years of technical experience.
  • Strong programming skills in Java (Spring Boot) and Python.
  • Experience with JUnit for unit testing and GraphQL for API development.
  • Proficiency with Maven or Gradle for build and dependency management.
  • Deep understanding of microservices architecture and API design.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS container services.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services: EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, IAM, VPC, etc.
  • Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL database technologies.
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.
  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional).
  • Experience with event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, SNS/SQS).
  • Familiarity with serverless computing and edge services (e.g., AWS LambdaEdge, CloudFront).
  • Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps culture.
  • Experience in the airline or retail industry, with domain-specific knowledge.
