Job Title: Project Engineer – NDT and Mechanical Test

Location: Filton, Bristol

Type: 6month contract

Shift pattern: 37hrs a week, hybrid.

Rate: 35 - 45 ph PAYE

Role Purpose:

A Project Engineer is required to initiate a research project related to NDT and mechanical testing of adhesive bonded structures. This 6-month contract aims to complete the initial testing phase and prepare it for handover to the research engineering team.

Key Accountabilities

  • General Requirements:
    • Manage project plan delivery within budget, on time, and to high quality.
    • Write statements of work and liaise with suppliers to achieve desired outcomes.
    • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Author technical documentation, including test specifications and reports.
    • Exemplify a safety-first mindset, ensuring compliance with the company&8217;s Aerospace Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
    • Foster positive team relationships with internal and external customers and co-workers.
  • Sub Function Specific:
    • Conduct NDT and mechanical testing on various aircraft and non-aircraft materials, components, and structures.
    • Desired understanding of interlaminar fracture testing (G1c) and ultrasonic inspection of composites, single crystal, and/or phased array.

Candidate Specification:

  • Essential:
    • Technical expertise in research and development with a professional qualification in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical).
    • Demonstrable industrial experience in delivering research projects.
    • Understanding of composites manufacturing processes.
    • Ability to read and document technical information (e.g., literature reviews).
    • Experience in defining and generating research test plans.
    • Experience in supplier management.
    • Previous experience in mechanical test piece design and specification.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft tools.
    • Proven track record of managing budgets and timescales.
    • Adherence to and management of project plans.
    • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Desirable:
    • Formal Project/Program Management qualification.
    • Knowledge of mechanical testing of carbon composites.
    • Knowledge of adhesive bonding processes in aerospace.
    • Experience in ultrasonic inspection (UT).
    • Understanding of plasma treatment processes.
