Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Electronics Engineer (Field Support - Payloads/Sensors) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is in support of our Avionics Integration West organization.

The selected candidate will undergo training in Rancho Bernardo, CA or Palmdale, CA with a final assignment location on Whidbey Island, Washington for approximately two years.

As a Principal Electronics Engineer (Field Support - Payloads/Sensors), you will play a critical role in the field integrating, deploying, and troubleshooting of electronic systems and solutions that keep our world safe. This includes the testing and analyzing of various electronic equipment and systems (including radar and radiation detection equipment, Electro Optical, Infrared, and other RF communications equipment and systems), circuitry components, analog and digital computers, and control and test equipment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform field integration, troubleshooting, and repair of communications and data link systems in a military flight test environment, including operations on a flightline, in a hangar, and in command-and-control centers.
  • Perform/support review and analysis of supplier design data, definition of functional test requirements including acceptance, qualification, and system integration.
  • Test, maintain, and integrate payloads and sensors equipment to include radar and radiation detection equipment, radio, television, and other communications equipment and systems, circuitry components, analog and digital computers, and control and test equipment.
  • Interface with design engineers, system administrators, maintainers, and other site leads
  • Support personnel to troubleshoot and repair any payloads-related issues

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field with 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s Degree in STEM with 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in STEM with 0 years of related engineering experience.
  • Experience with test equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and/or signal generators
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with coding & scripting languages (i.e., MATLAB, Python)
  • Active, in scope DoD Top Secret Clearance
  • Ability to gain and maintain SCI access
  • Ability to support assignment at location for a minimum of 24 months

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in System Integration
  • Experience working with Sensors (Radar, EOIR)
  • Experience in a development environment
  • Experience with Post-Flight Analysis
  • Ability to learn data analysis processes and techniques
  • Strong communication skills, organization skills, and the ability to collaborate in a team environment
  • Experience supporting large scale Test effort
  • Experience with aerospace development, production, or operations
  • Working in a flight line environment
Salary Range: $97,500 - $146,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
