Pratt & Whitney is seeking an experienced Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Sr. Manager of Compliance, responsible for EH&S compliance associated with the day-to-day operations at our Ceramic Matrix Composites Center of Excellence facility located in Carlsbad, California. This position will report to the site Sr. EHS Manager.

  • This is a leadership position with high visibility and management reporting responsibilities.
  • Candidates should be able to work independently on projects, participate on multiple team efforts, be energetic and provide team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of the site Process Safety Management program to deliver 100 compliance.
  • Identification and implementation of opportunities within the PSM program to minimize risk over and above compliance requirements.
  • Partnering with the leadership team and line supervision to ensure EH&S regulatory compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations and adherence to P&W procedures and RTX EH&S Standard Practices.
  • Prepare and manage documentation relating to environmental policies in preparation for audits.
  • Lead projects to meet or exceed EH&S goals.
  • Provide proper documentation in preparation for permits and liaising with governmental bodies.
  • Manage consultants hired to assist with EH&S compliance.
  • Achieves and maintains consistency of environmental record keeping and documentation in accordance with regulatory and corporate policies.
  • Act as a PSM technical resource for the site and provide training and support as required.
  • Assist with establishment of local EHS Management Systems that are aligned with the company EHS Management System. Maintains compliance with EHS Management System policies.
  • Identification of health & safety hazards and controls to mitigate risks.
  • Deployment of corporate-wide programs, risk mitigation and injury prevention initiatives.
  • Provide timely information and guidance for the General Manager, Site EHS Manager and the site EH&S council and Sub-Committees, including EH&S performance trends and root cause corrective actions for incidents and injuries.
  • Support the development and implementation of strategic action plans to achieve the company goal of a hazard-free workplace, injury-free employees and an unmatched commitment to compliance and sustainability.
     

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Engineering from ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology).
  • 10+ years of Engineering experience, or 7+ years with an advanced degree.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing settings, preferably in the aerospace industry.
  • At least 3 years previous experience leading Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance.

Travel: 10 annually

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS or Advanced Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven strong communication, strategic leadership, technical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the drive to achieve full compliance.
  • Proven skills working with a team to meet challenging goals.
  • Demonstrated leadership in EHS compliance and employee engagement.
  • EH&S regulatory compliance and management systems knowledge.
  • Strong attention to detail and the drive to achieve full compliance.
  • Experience working with consultants and lawyers to achieve goals.
  • Additional certifications, such as CSP, CIH. P.E. or CHMM.

What is my role type?

In addition to transforming the future of flight, we are also transforming how and where we work. We’ve introduced role types to help you understand how you will operate in our blended work environment. This role is:

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

This position is open to internal applicants only within Pratt & Whitney.  To help shore up our military programs, we are looking to reallocate resources to USG direct charging roles and therefore consider this to be an internal to Pratt movement.  We may look to open these opportunities upon more broadly once we complete the initial Pratt talent moves.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is 130,000 USD - 272,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
