We are looking for you to join our team as a Strategic Weapons System Launcher Field Operations Manager based out of Quonset Point, RI or Groton, CT. This is an onsite position with no teleworking availability.

This manager will provide Field Operations management and technical support in an industrial environment, specifically during installation and testing of the Trident II Submarine Launching Systems for COLUMBIA/Dreadnought Class SSBNs in support of Strategic Systems Programs (SSP).  The main installation and testing sites for COLUMBIA Class SSBNS are Quonset Point, RI and Groton, CT with flexibility to make either site the primary office to perform management duties.  It is expected that this role will work closely with the Field Operations manager supporting the Dreadnought Class SSBNs located in Barrow-in-Furness, England.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter, who needs little supervision, has excellent communication skills, exhibits flexibility, ability to work well with others, and manage team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and grow a team of six field engineers and one logistician at Groton, CT and Quonset Point, RI. Perform collateral management responsibilities, as required, for a team of three field engineers at Barrow-in-Furness, England.
  • Execute the staffing plan ramp-up and training plan required for growing the COLUMBIA Class launcher installation and testing team.
  • Create, review, adjudicate, and conduct test documentation in support of the Shipyard Installation and Test Program (SITP) for COLUMBIA/Dreadnought Class SSBNs.
  • Work collaboratively with NG Systems Test Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Design Engineering organizations to ensure all requirements are met through execution of SITP documentation.
  • Provide technical support to shipyard personnel on the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Trident launcher subsystem and support equipment.
  • Train shipyard personnel in equipment operations, installation, maintenance, and inspection procedures, and techniques.
  • Support local and reach back (to home office) problem resolution for issues encountered during installation, test, equipment operation, and material inspection.
  • Develop or modify processes and procedures as required for multi-stakeholder work execution.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Field Operations manager supporting the Dreadnought Class SSBNs to ensure best practices and lessons learned are shared real time.
  • Report to COLUMBIA/Dreadnought Program Manager of problem areas and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Prepare required status reports, perform internal/external briefs, and ensure daily log of tasks/repairs accomplished.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and 9+ years of relevant work experience, or Masters degree and 7+ years of work experience. Note: An additional 4+ years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Must be willing to relocate to either Quonset Point, RI or Groton, CT to support Weapons System testing on the Columbia Program
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
  • Must be willing to support occasional travel up to 30.
  • Must be willing to work on a rotating schedule, as needed; periodic shift work and weekend work may be required based on testing and operational needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math).
  • Must be a U.S Citizen with a minimum of active DoD Secret clearance.
  • 20 years’ experience with the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) Program, Submersible Ship Ballistic Nuclear (SSBN) and Strategic Weapons Systems operations.
  • 15 years’ experience on the D5 Launcher Subsystem and Launcher Support Equipment.
  • Extensive familiarity and experience with Shipyard Installation Test Program (SITP) programs for U.S. and UK SSBNs programs.
Salary Range: $142,600 - $213,800
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
