Position Responsibilities:

Boeing Global Services (BGS) is looking for a C-17 Aircraft Structural Engineer based in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This position is for an aircraft structural engineer (product review engineer) in support of the C-17 Field Services based in the UAE. The position location is in Abu Dhabi at a UAE Air Force and Air Defense base.  Security clearance and access to the base is a requirement of the position.

The successful applicant will participate in resolving complex aircraft structures problems that require the ability to create repair schemes using a high level of ingenuity, innovation, and coordination between Boeing, third party contractors and the UAE customer.

The successful candidate will provide UAE customer troubleshooting & repair guidance, engineering dispositions, investigate and pursue courses of action necessary to safely support the UAE mission including assistance to resolve technical/structures problems that would critically affect performance, cost, or schedule; verify accuracy of results through consultation with other authorities within field services, the C-17 Program and Boeing. 

The successful applicant will be required to provide similar technical support to all other C-17 aircraft operators and maintainers participating in the C-17 Virtual Fleet. Travel to other operating locations to assist with operation, maintenance, and recovery or aircraft may be required.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Participating in resolving complex operational problems that require a high level of ingenuity, innovation, and coordination with the UAEAF customer and other Boeing entities.

  • Providing the UAEAF customer troubleshooting and repair guidance.

  • Providing assistance with the interpretation of technical documents to ensure the intent and purpose of the documentation is understood and followed.

  • Providing specialized on-the-job training by explaining the theory of operations and demonstrating basic operating, maintenance, servicing procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Investigating and pursuing courses of action necessary to safely support UAEAF missions including assistance with spares supply and support equipment.

  • Documenting field site activities by preparing and transmitting publication change requests, continuous process improvement data, and technical reports to provide status of product or customer issues and developments. 

  • In addition the preferred candidate will be required to provide similar support and advice for other C-17 customers worldwide.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or higher is required (i.e. Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar)

  • Strong background in repair and maintenance airframe structure and hydro-mechanical systems.

  • General knowledge of common aircraft support equipment. Knowledge of both USAF and UAE processes, procedures and protocols and the ability to apply this knowledge to develop action plans is essential.

  • This position requires the ability to work independently under time constraints and stress, in a demanding, on-call, around the clock operational environment.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Prior field experience in troubleshooting complex integrated systems, within an operational environment utilizing Technical Orders, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, system schematics and historical repair data is essential; prior C-17 experience is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of aircraft design, theory of operation, qualification testing, engineering drawing, operational performance and lessons learned, pending design improvements, support systems, technical orders, and repair philosophy is desirable.  

  • It is desirable for the applicant to have a background with the operation, maintenance and fault diagnosis of aircraft electrical, environmental, propulsion, mission, avionics, and communication systems.
  • Prior C-17 field experience in troubleshooting complex aircraft structural issues, within an operational environment utilizing Technical Orders, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, system schematics, & historical repair data is highly desirable. An existing technical network within C-17 Field Services and the C-17 program is desirable.

  • Knowledge of Universal Product Review (UPR) including Material Review Authorization (MRA), Materials Review Board (MRB) processes, supplier delegated MRB processes (e.g., authorization, qualification, maintenance, disclosure), and post-production review. Previous experience working with International customers a plus. 

  • Travel to other operating locations to assist with operation, maintenance, and recovery or aircraft may be required.

This requisition is for an international, locally hired position in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S.-based payroll, and will commensurate with experience and qualifications and in accordance with applicable UAE law.
