Hybrid Role:
This is a hybrid position; you will be required to work at the WestJet Campus in Calgary approximately 2-3 days / week.
Candidates need to be located within Calgary Metropolitan Region.

Reporting to the Director, Fleet Leasing and Transactions, the Senior Specialist, Financing and Fleet Transactions will partner with other members of the WestJet Treasury team on the ongoing management of the WestJet Group aircraft lease portfolio, existing and new asset financing transactions and overall fleet management. 

Responsibilities 

  • Partner with internal and external parties (legal, operations, management, lessors, and credit partners) on the ongoing management of the WestJet Group aircraft lease portfolio and financing arrangements
  • Proactively monitor compliance with aircraft lease agreements including but not limited to planning for and acting upon key milestones, lease expiries and notification timelines 
  • Negotiate and document new leases, lease extensions and other lease amendments 
  • Respond to lessor inquiries and requests in a timely manner 
  • Work closely with members of the Finance and Accounting teams on the accurate reporting and forecasting of fleet transactions
  • Develop process improvements and implement solutions for the management of the WestJet Group aircraft lease portfolio 
  • Assist with the sourcing, analysis and negotiation of asset financing transactions
  • Provide analytical support for discussions with aircraft manufacturers and management of existing agreements 
  • Collaborate with the business on aircraft retirement planning activities and assist with the finance elements of the aircraft delivery and closing process 

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree; preferably in Business/Finance 
  • At least five years of practical experience with the negotiation and execution of financing arrangements and other contractual agreements and the management thereof 
  • CFA designation and/or airline experience considered an asset
  • Strong sense of ownership, curiosity and ability to think critically 
  • Ability to analyse financial opportunities and clearly summarize for senior management 
  • High attention to detail but an equally important ability to see the big picture 
  • Organized and thorough, with a desire for continuous improvement 
  • Ability to handle pressure and meet tight timelines in an environment with a high volume of activity 
  • Effective team member, willingness to work in a cross-functional organization 
  • Microsoft office proficiency and a keen interest in learning new technology
