Reporting to the Senior Manager of Corporate Planning, this role will deliver high-value, actionable financial performance insights to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). The Corporate Planning team is responsible for leading budget and forecast cycles, advising on the financial impacts of key strategic initiatives, and developing the framework for internal financial reporting and valuation. The key deliverables of the team include a monthly business review, annual budget, long-range financial plan and ad-hoc support on prospective acquisitions, divestitures, and/or strategic partnerships.
Responsibilities:
Analyze WestJet’s financial results and develop meaningful insights that lead into actions to enhance the company’s financial performance
Prepare and maintain complex financial models used for long-range financial analysis and enterprise valuation
Continuously improve WestJet’s financial models to increase flexibility and deliver robust sensitivity/scenario analysis
Develop robust, sustainable models to understand the financial impact of key strategic initiatives on WestJet’s long range financial plan
Understand the relationship between financial statement accounts to investigate balances and discrepancies, prepare explanations for variances using insights derived from data
Generate and distribute monthly financial reporting to the ELT and Board of Directors
Benchmark WestJet’s financial performance with key competitors
Coordinate the timely completion of the monthly forecast and the annual budget
Partner with key stakeholders to improve process efficiency and accuracy
Manage monthly traffic reporting (flight movements and passenger data)
Assist with other corporate planning portfolios including capital, lease provision, and group synergies
Be an active member of the Finance team; willing to mentor and coach peers, brainstorm issues, complete ad-hoc requests, and be flexible in completing any task
Qualifications:
5 to 8 years of relevant work experience in a financial analysis, corporate planning, corporate development, investment banking, equity research role; previous airline experience is an asset
Completion of post-secondary education
Finance Designation (CFA), MBA, Accounting Designation (CPA), or CBV
Expert proficiency with MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
Extensive experience with financial analysis and modelling, including sensitivity and scenario analysis
Possess critical thinking skills to understand and apply drivers and assumptions for complex analysis
Ability to handle pressure and meet tight timelines in a high-paced environment
Naturally curious, detail-oriented individual that takes great pride in delivering high-quality results
Proven ability to conduct detailed financial analysis, synthesizing insights into clear and concise presentation materials
Onestream or Oracle/Hyperion experience would be an asset
