Position Accountabilities
- The EH&S Specialist is responsible for leading all EH&S activities and insuring staff/visitors/guest/contractor complies with all federal, provincial codes and requirements.
- Participate in engaging all personnel in achieving EHS goals and vision and making safety a behavior not just a policy.
- Conduct safety orientations for new hires
- Assess training needs for managers and employees and provide recommendations
- Oversee First Aid courses, respirator fit testing and hearing/immunization tests
- Investigate all accidents, incidents and near misses alongside the Department Supervisor and ensuring all appropriate root causes/corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner. (Reported to WCB as required.)
- Responsible for adhering to and improving an EHS audit system, including PPE, Safety Stations, chemical inventories & SDS database and Department Inspections. (This can include audits of facilities that require travel.)
- Ensure all metrics are maintained and documented accordingly.
- Responsible for proactively raising EHS awareness, including developing and delivering training, monthly Safety meetings, EHS updates, and Fire Zone lists.
- Participate in annual planning / budgeting for EHS personnel and EHS activities across all departments and locations.
- Actively participates on assigned teams and/or projects, including facility Health & Safety Committee and process improvement initiatives.
- Facilitating Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment activates as per planned schedule
- Providing periodic reports on safety performance and the effectiveness of mitigation actions
- Participate in the creation of company environmental programs and compliance to any legislative requirements such as ISO 14001:2015
- Accompany all environmental, health and safety auditors/inspectors on walk through tours; and ensure all documentation is completed according to company processes and procedures.
- Participate in regular drills onsite; Emergency Response, Safety, Equipment Practice, First Responders etc.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of regulations and standards
Position Requirements:
• Minimum grade 12 education, Post-secondary education in a related field is an asset.
• An occupational H&S and/or Environmental related experience is an asset
• Take initiative, ownership, and accountability

Working Environment:
An individual in this capacity must be aware that the position will involve:
• At times willing to work outside of regular business hours to complete tasks.
• Willing to perform periodic business travel.
• Being able to walk to various areas throughout the facility on a daily basis.
• Must be willing to comply with all company policies as established in the employee handbook.
• Willing to take part in ongoing training.
• Must be able to spend extended periods of time working at a computer or on the phone.
• Must wear standard personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
• Able to commute to Langley and Richmond work locations, as required.
