The Data and Analytics teams focus on delivering large scale data processing and analytics services using a mix of traditional and innovative Azure cloud technologies.
We are pursuing a highly motivated individual with strong problem-solving skills to take on the challenge to help NAV CANADA achieve its strategic priorities. As a Power BI Developer/Analyst on our team, you are responsible for the delivery of data objects to application users and citizen developers. You are an experienced developer, who can play an active role in solution design and implementation to support both business intelligence reporting applications and data management.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide expertise in Microsoft Power BI technology, specifically as related to data design and development, reporting, dashboards, metrics, and analysis. 
  • Participate in complex or multiple complex project(s), in the requirements gathering, analysis, design development, testing, and implementation of new features and enhancements to applications.  This would involve investigating solutions, evaluating complex system requirements, conducting cost-benefit analysis, planning, resource, time estimates, contributing to conceptual and solution architecture design, coaching others on project issues and recommending solutions.
  • Actively support the on-going life-cycle activities, platform maintenance, developing optimum performance levels, performance monitoring, capacity assessment, data management, availability, failure modes and recovery, security, communications interfaces, and technical support.  Monitor incident, request, and change management tickets and processes to ensure service levels are met. Establish procedures, standards, and best practices.
  • Participate in the Power BI user group community to share emerging technology advancements, maintain the engagement with stakeholders and support the development of self-service workloads.
  • Develop and maintain communications with business stakeholders to understand their needs, advise on changes to plans, programs, priorities, and shifts in processes affecting business requirements, processes, and workflow.
  • Participate in the development, documentation, and execution of test cases and test scripts for solutions to identify and correct issues.
  • Support the team by actively participating in day-to-day tasks and ad-hoc assignments, being proactive, and taking responsibility for planned and unplanned work required by clients.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Degree from a recognized university or community college with an acceptable specialization in computer, electrical engineering, systems engineering, computer science or information systems, and at least 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • 5&43; years Experience with Microsoft Power BI, requirements gathering, design, development, testing and implementation of reporting solutions.
  • 5&43; years Experience with Microsoft Power BI, administration, developing best practices, standards, processes, and methodologies.
  • Experience promoting and supporting Power BI platform and user group community.
  • Experience working with database technology, Azure SQL Server, Azure Data Lake, and programming languages such as DAX and SQL.
  • Experience with programming languages Scala, Python, R.
  • Experience with Azure Databricks, and IBM Cognos BI a nice to have.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of business intelligence and data management methodologies and technologies for data warehousing, data quality management, reference and master data management, and data governance.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and data modelling design concepts: star-schema modelling, snowflake schema modelling, fact, and dimension tables, slowly changing dimensions.
  • Knowledge of modern software development life cycle processes, practices, and techniques, including Agile, Scrum and DevOps.
  • Knowledge and experience with frameworks and processes including Incident, Request, Change Management, Project Management, and Patch Management.
  • Knowledge of user interface, and data visualization design and best practices.

  • Ability to persuade, influence, and lead. Coach and support others in field of expertise.

Working conditions:

  • Travel may be required on occasion
  • This position is based at Ottawa Head Office but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.

Please note: In the event that a qualified candidate is not found at the PIPSC-3 level, a qualified candidate may be considered at PIPSC-2 level. The successful candidate at PIPSC 2 level will be required to participate in a development program with an intent of progressing to the PIPSC-3 Level through qualification at the end of the successful completion of the development program within a specified period. Candidates will be required to indicate, at the initial stage of the selection process, if they are interested in the PIPSC-2 development position. Participants in the development program will be expected to show commitment and satisfactory progress towards demonstrating the competencies associated with the PIPSC-3 level position throughout the development program.
